Hi, I'm Max Harwood, an Australian anthropologist. I grew up in Woy Woy, bogan capital of the world. My PhD studied military service in Turkey and Israel.
I currently teach anthropology and ethnographic film production at Macquarie University (Sydney). Here's my academic research profile if you're interested.
My professional background is in Australian native title anthropology, and I am currently a consultant for the Indigenous Desert Alliance (Perth).
I have been working as an ethnographic filmmaker since 2011. My documentaries have been screened at a variety of international film festivals and universities,
and I am the founder and festival director of the Macquarie University International Ethnographic Film Festival.
I am a proficient filmmaker [DSLR, Digital Super 35, Bolex 16mm], editor [Premiere Pro/FCP], photographer [35mm, medium format, digital],
graphic/web designer [Adobe CC], team player and long-distance runner. I do everything myself, from principal photography to final editing and post-production.
I have current research projects and work spaces in Sydney, Istanbul, Tel Aviv and Ottawa. I am an eye-wear enthusiast and work best in sub-tropical climes.
I own all of my own equipment and can travel on short notice.
